NIGERIA: A NEW dawn is on the way for the Department of Theater Arts of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Provost of the institution, Dr. A. Ayodele Ajayi, has given word of assurance that plans were underway for the
department to have a modern and larger performance studio.
“The provost, Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Dr. A. Ayodele Ajayi has promised the department of theatre arts of the college a modern and larger performance studio,” a release signed by the Deputy Registrar (Public Relations) of the institution, Bola Adesina, explained.
Ajayi made this known on Thursday at the official initiation of no fewer than 43 fresh students to the theatre arts profession at the ceremony held at the college campus.
“The symbolic initiation is an annual ‘ritual’ for the new intakes to the department of theatre arts of the college,” Adesina, who is the National Chairman of the Committee of Public Relations Executives/Information Officers of Colleges of Education in Nigeria (COPRECOE), said.
According to the Deputy Registrar, the management of the college was very much interested in the overall physical development on the campus.
“The provost said the college will soon complete the first round of the infrastructural development which covers more classrooms and lecture theatres,” the image maker said, adding: “He said the second stage will include laboratories and studios which will capture the theatre art studio.”
Adesina said that Ajayi in his response to the Head of Department of the Theater Arts, Dr. Omotoso’s request, assured that a degree program on theater arts will soon be launched at the college, while he also explained that the emergence of the course will depend on satisfactory report by accreditation team of the Nigeria Universities Commission.
