Buhari expresses confidence in Ooni as UNN Chancellor

…As Oba Ogunwusi promises on nation’s lost glory

 

NIGERIA: PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has expressed confidence in the ability of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi – as Chancellor – to effect positive development in the administration of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

The expression of faith in the young traditional ruler by the federal government came at the time Oba Ogunwusi also promised to be in the forefront of championing the cause of the youths in restoring the lost glory of the country.

The confidence by the government at the centre and Ooni’s pledge came to the fore last Saturday during the installation of the monarch as the Chancellor of UNN.

Buhari, who congratulated Oba Ogunwusi on his appointment, said he was cocksure the monarch would bring his

wealth of experience in human and resource management to bear in the university.

Buhari, represented by the Minister of State for Education, Anthony Gozie Anuka, wished the first class traditional rulers a successful tenure as the new Chancellor.
Also, honoured at the event with honourary doctorate degrees are the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, ex-Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Coomassie, Arthur Eze, Justice Eze Ozobu and Godwin Alaoma.

Similarly, a Professor of Fine and Applied Arts, Professor Ola Oloidi and 18 other professors were also honoured as Professor Emeritus at the event to mark the university’s 45th convocation.
Ogunwusi, charged the youths to do all within their ambit to pursue their dreams for a better country.

While saying that he dedicated his Chancellorship to the youths, he said: “It’s now a reality by virtue of what happened here today, I want to challenge all my fellow youths to pursue their dreams vigorously and with God on your side, you will all attain all your goals.

“If you do things in a forthright manner, your efforts will not go in vain for God himself will continually bless you,” Oba Ogunwusi said, adding that he would be a good representative of the Nigerian youths.
The traditional ruler assured them of his unflinching support to enhance their formidable force so that they can adequately make contributions to the greatness of the country.
“We must be good example of our household, community and our country Nigeria,” he said, while adding: “Let us come together in peace, I promise to support the youths beginning from Nsukka here in achieving their dream as well as to improve them to become a formidable force towards making Nigerian a great nation and I will not fail in the discharge of my duties as the Chancellor.”
Among those who accompanied Oba Ogunwusi to the ceremony were Alayemore of Ido-Osun, Alaagba of Aagba, Onigbaye of Igbaye, Elejesi of Ejesi, Obaloran of Ife, Jaaran of Ife, Arode of Ife, Jeleel Ojuade, Funmilola Olorunnisola, Mr. Akin Daodu, Mr. Jide Fadairo, Mr. Yinka Olojede, Mr. Muyiwa Afolabi, Ayoade Adewopo, National Publicity Secretary of Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, and Raji Ropo Rasheed.
