NIGERIA: WHY would a 71-year-old man commit suicide?
This is the question men of the Nigeria Police Force are trying to unravelled after Olawale Akinrefere committed suicide in Arigbajo in Ewekoro Local Government area of Ogun State.
The septuagenarian died voluntarily around 6am last Saturday when he jumped into an abandoned well.
The wife of the deceased was said to have reported the incident to the state police command.
According to sources, the woman said that the deceased left a suicide note, the content of which was not revealed.
The police image maker, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the development, stated that the command had begun investigation into the matter.
Adejobi, a Superintendent of Police, explained that the note left behind by the deceased could not be read, but added that the experts in the police would decode the content.
“It is true, the incident happened at Arigbajo. The wife of the man came to report at the station that her husband jumped into an abandoned deep well and died,” the Police Public Relations Officer said
Adejobi added: “She said the deceased left a suicide note, and we are still carefully studying the note, which was written with pencil and not clear enough.”
“But police will make use of experts to get the content of the note,” he stressed.
