NIGERIA: THE Nigerian Army has handed over 12 of its senior officers to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for probe over series of financial allegations leveled against them.
The Army, which did not state specifically the myriad of financial offences committed by the officers, said they were sent to the commission for investigative purposes.
This decision was contained in a press release issued on Thursday by the Army spokesperson, Colonel Sani Usman.
Usman said in the release that among those who must clear their names before the EFCC are three serving Major-Generals and one retired officer of the same rank.
Others, according to him, are three Brigadier-Generals, four Colonels and one Lieutenant Colonel.
The Army spokesman, however, hinted that if found guilty after the commission’s investigation, the officers would not face trial in the civil court.
According to him, they would be tried by a military court martial, in line with the military rules and regulations.
