Buhari arrives Ogun, gets Awujale’s support on war against corruption

NIGERIA: PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Monday arrived Ogun State for a two-day official visit where he got a support on his fight against corruption from the revered Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
The President, accompanied by the host Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, arrived Ijebu-Ode at 6.20pm, in a chopper that landed at the Dipo Dina International Stadium.
The President was received at the palace by Oba Adetona and both held a closed-door meeting after which a banquet was held in honour of the President who is expected to commission a bunch of projects as part of the 40th anniversary of the state.
Some traditional rulers and high chiefs in Ijebuland were also in attendance to receive the President at the Awujale’s palace.
At the banquet, Oba Adetona, who prayed for the success of the Buhari administration, commended the President and gave support to his fight against corruption.
Awujale, who showered encomiums on Buhari for his sterling and visionary leadership, said he was totally in support of the war against corruption, while urging Nigerians to support the President in this direction.
Oba Adetona said: “If we don’t face corruption, corruption will kill us. And we don’t want corruption to kill us. So, Nigerians must support your efforts.”
The President, who briefly addressed dignitaries and royal fathers in Ijebuland, said that he would meet former President Obasanjo later in the evening for talks.
Buhari was welcomed to the palace by some of his cabinet members who included the Ministers of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
Shortly after the banquet, the President left Ijebu-Ode by road to Abeokuta, where he was met by residents of the state who turned out in large number to welcome him to the state capital.
Among eminent personalities who received him were ex-governors Olusegun Osoba and Gbenga Daniel, Oba Otudeko, Mike Adenuga, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman (South), Engineer Segun Oni; former Ogun Deputy Governor, Senator Sefiu Adegbenga Kaka, and the Chief Judge of Ogun, Justice Olatokunbo Olopade.
Others were Olorogun Sunny Kuku, Senators Lanre Tejuoso (Ogun Central), Gbolahan Dada (Ogun West) and Buruji Kashamu (Ogun East), Senator Lekan Mustapha, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Chief Agboola Alausa, Vice Chancellor of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Professor Yemisi Obilade; her Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye counterpart, Prof. Saburi Adesanya, Senator Olorunimbe Mamora, Chief Biodun Sobanjo, Sir (Chief) Kessington Adebutu and Olori Omooba of Ijebuland, Chief Subomi Balogun.
