Bandits raid food vendors in Abeokuta

NIGERIA: A GROUP of bandits have raided some local food vendors’ shops in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

They carted away raw foodstuff and prepared soup at the shops located in front of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Oke-Ilewo.

GatewayMail learnt that the incident occurred Tuesday midnight.
According to one of the vendors, Mrs. Oluwatosin Aderemi (37), she explained that she could not believe her eyes on what became of the shops over the ugly incident.
“I met the shop emptied, the door was broken by force and even the parboiled one bag of rice is nowhere to be found,” Aderemi said.
The woman, popularly called Iya Ofada, further told GatewayMail that the incident was not the first time the bandits would raid within the area, but that all effort to stop them proved abortive.
Another victim, Mrs. Tope Odeniyi (56), told GatewayMail that when she heard the news about the robbery, she was shocked.

But on arrival at the shop, she stated that she discovered that her new stock of shoes, cloths had been carted away.
Odeniyi, who profusely shed tears, said that what she lost to the hoodlums ran into thousands of naira
Similarly, Mrs. Yemisi Olanrewaju (35), another seller, said she suspected a man selling dry gin within the vicinity as one of the gang members.
Olanrewaju said that the suspect (name withheld) was fond of selling dry gin till late in the night every day, while people of various shady characters converge there regularly.

She said the case had been reported to the police as at the time of filing this report
Meanwhile, among the items that were stolen included a bag of rice, five liters of palm and vegetable oils, soup with assorted meats, fishes, ponmon with boiled eggs, shoes, clothes, plates, cups, and unquantifiable amount of money.
