Mapoly fresh graduate escapes death in auto crash

NIGERIA: A FRESH graduate of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Malik Ismail, has escaped death in an auto crash involving a petrol tanker and his Toyota Corolla car.

GatewayMail gathered that the auto accident occurred Thursday under the Ibara overhead bridge in Abeokuta when the truck hit and subsequently pulled the car Malik was driving, resulting in severe damaged.

The car with registration number Lagos BDG 198 DN, GatewayMail further learnt, was dragged by the truck and got stuck in between the pillars of the bridge.
Malik was alleged to be going to Fidelity Bank around the area to reactive his Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card when the incident happened.
However, another source claimed that Malik was trying to manoeuvre his way beside the truck, to beat the traffic light, when he lost control resulting in the accident.
Mother luck was said to be on the side of Malik not to have been crushed to death inside the car, but he was rescued from the wreckage unhurt by passersby and the traffic wardens at the scene.
The driver of the truck with registration number BAM 176 XA, who was identified as Mohammed, was said to be coming from Oke-Shokori area of the town and negotiating the bend under the bridge when the incident occurred.
An eyewitness blamed the duo, saying that in their desperation to beat the traffic light they both got involved in the accident.
Meanwhile, as at the time our reporter was leaving the scene, police from Motor Traffic Department (MTD) had arrived and towed the two vehicles to the station, while both drivers have been invited for further investigations.
