GERMANY:  SOME Germans are not happy with refugee situations in their communities and are asking the Chancellor Angela Merkel government to find urgent panacea to it.

The residents of Landshut in Bavaria got angry and decided to move no fewer than 31 Syrians to Merkel’s office in Berlin, the capital, as a way to show their displeasure.

The anger and frustrations of the Germans, GatewayMail learnt, followed the inability of government to provide adequate housing for the

refugees, and also after the mass sexual attacks in Cologne and few other cities on the eve of the New Year.

No fewer than 1.1 million refugees have been granted asylum in Germany since the influx of migrants into Europe, particularly last year when the crisis in Syria escalated to a high proportional level leading to many fleeing for safety.

The angry Germans, however, loaded the Syrian refugees in a bus and transported them to Merkel’s office with a clear message of their unpleasantness to continue to harbour the refugees in their community.

Led by their Mayor, Peter Dreier, they embarked on the seven hour trip to kick against the open-door refugee policy of Merkel administration.

According to Dreier, the situation had gotten to a desperation level to set the limit on the number of refugees in their domain.

“We are trying to help these people integrate,” he said, adding: “But that won’t work if this year we face another wave of one million, or even more.”

Dreier added: “I think that we have to ensure the humane treatment of these refugees.  On this scale and within such a short time we simply can’t guarantee that anymore.”

But the spokesperson for Merkel, Steffen Seibert, stated that government at the centre had shifted the responsibilities on the refugees to the state and local governments.

According to Seibert, government had provided funding for the two tiers of government to take care of the refugees, though claiming that government was not unaware of the challenges the refugees pose to their host communities.

The spokesperson added: “The government is aware that the current number of refugees is posing significant challenges throughout Germany and especially in Bavaria.”
