NIGERIA: OSUN State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has praised Nigerian soldiers especially in the fight against insurgency in the country.
Aregbesola gave the commendation at the Armed Force Remembrance Day celebration, an annual event organised to honour members of the Nigeria Armed Forces who fought in the First and Second World wars, and those who served or are still serving in various peace support operations worldwide.
The theme of this year Armed Forces remembrance is tagged “Motivating The Nigeria Armed Force for Effective Service Delivery.”
Aregbesola further said on the occasion that the Nigerian society must devise means to reward and support war veterans that had kept the nation together.
“Our own society must device means to specially award and support our veterans. Their plight should not be an annual event during the Armed forces remembrance day celebration only,” the governor said.
GatewayMail observed that the laying of the wreaths was done at the tomb of the fallen soldiers for the first time since the inception of the state, contrary to the known military cenotaph in front of the state House of Assembly.
