CANADA: A FIVE-MONTH-OLD child has escaped death after she was saved from a burning stove in Victoriaville about 160 kilometers northeast of Montreal, Quebec.
Apparently due to careless attitude, having been previously counselled against the act by her wife, the father “mistakenly” placed the girl car seat on the stove unaware that the power had been switched on, which almost burns her to death.
Police in the area have begun investigation into the real cause of the fire, without ruling out any negative motive on the part of the dad.
According to the police, they’re set to interview some neighbors and witnesses to gather more information that may lead to prosecution or exoneration of the parents in the act.
The little girl was taken to a local hospital before she was moved to a children medical center in the French speaking city of Montreal where she was admitted for burns treatment.
According to medical sources, the child is doing pretty well and responding to treatment applied on her so far.
Police Sergeant Genevieve Burneau confirmed the incident, saying that the police were called by Thursday night about a fire in a Victoriaville home.
Bruneau: “According to the first information we have, the baby was in a car seat and was probably on the stove in the kitchen and the fire started there.”
The police officer said that the toddler’s life was not under threat, but she suffered some burns – though not a life-threatening one.
Her father also suffered some burns, particularly during efforts to save her daughter after the child’s cries were heard from the kitchen.
