The government said that it gave them three months – which ends on March 31 – to comply with the directive without failure.
The Health Commissioner, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, explained that the move was necessary for sanity and to stamp out quackery.
Ipaye, in a release signed by the ministry’s Press Officer, Mrs. Ebunlomo Taiyese, directed that Medical Centres, Maternity Homes, Medical Laboratories, Diagnostic Centres, Physiotherapist Clinic, Mortuaries and Alternative Medicines Practitioners operating in the state must revalidate their facilities within the stipulated period.

The commissioner also further expatiated that the move was to ensure proper monitoring, quality assurance and regulation of practice of medical professionals in both public and private sectors.

The exercise, Ipaye added, was meant to screen out all unqualified persons that had fraudulently registered and are running private health facilities in and around the state.
The commissioner said that Continue Medical Education (CME) would be organized to update the professionals like doctors, nurses, midwives and medical laboratory scientists operating private health facilities in the state.
The exercise, Ipaye maintained, would strictly not allow proxy registration of facilities by doctors and registered nurses for non-qualified persons.

Doctors who are not consultants and with less than 10 years post qualification experience, he said, would not be allowed to register and run an independent private health facility.
