Obadara, who represented Ogun Central Senatorial District under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the last National Assembly, told GatewayMail that the decision to establish the radio station was in fulfilment of his electoral promise to his people after his victory.

The station, named Sweet FM, a week ago, commenced transmission in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on 107.1 FM.

Obadara, who lost his re-election for second term after his battle with Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun over internal party wranglings, alongside some of the his fellow federal lawmakers, assured that Sweet FM would begin full operation by mid-January.

He explained that all necessary technical equipment have already been put in place after the station was granted licence to begin transmission.
“I took the initiative to situate Sweet 107.1 FM in the district as a way of giving back to the people who believe so much in me and have stayed by me over the years,” Obadara said.  “When the station commences full programming by the middle of this month, you will appreciate the number of our citizens whom we have economically empowered, directly and indirectly through that station.”
The former legislator stressed that the station would beam its programming on the plight of the voiceless for enlightenment and liberation.

While saying that the station’s programmes would be rich in content, he declared: “Beyond that, I believe that with a very rich content that will cut across all walks of life, they will be armed with first-hand information that will further liberate them and educate them on happenings around them.”
Obadara also said that shortly after losing the last election, he quickly directed his media personnel to begin preparations for the establishment of the station.

He said: “After the 2015 elections, I instructed my media aides to issue statement telling my people that despite the outcome of that election, their interest will remain uppermost in my heart and ever since, I have not relented.”

“I respect my words and this station is a confirmation of that fact,” Obadara, whose broadcast journalist cousin also recently established a media outfit in UK recently, stated.
