NIGERIA: THE police in Ogun State have arrested a 60-year-old man who allegedly defiled a 12-year-old girl in Abigi, a rural community in Ogun Waterside Local Government area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the development to journalists and explained that the suspect committed the crime on the Boxing Day.
“The police operatives attached to Abigi Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested one Adewale Enoch, 60, for having unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl, 12, on 26th December at 1540hrs,” Adejobi said.
He stated that the father of the girl reported Enoch’s criminal act to the policemen who promptly arrested the suspect at Moborode Area in Abigi.
Adejobi explained that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdulmajid Ali, has directed that the case be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Eleweran in Abeokuta for further Investigation and prosecution.
He also added that the commissioner’s directive was in line with the fact that the command had credible evidence to arraign the suspect in court.
Adejobi said: “The Police boss also appealed to parents and guardians to monitor their children or wards as all hands must be on deck to eradicate this criminal, barbaric and inhuman act in our society.”
The police image maker said also that Ali promised to do all within his power to continue the fight against child abuse, gender violence and other social vices that can expose children to moral dangers.
Meanwhile, the police last Friday in Sagamu Division of the state police command again intercepted a truck loaded with vandalised petrol (PMS).
The seizure came barely four days after a 33,000 litre truck loaded with vandalised petrol was intercepted in Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, operatives of the command, who acted on a tip-off, moved to the pipeline and nabbed one Elochukwu Byron and others, now at large, in the act of syphoning petrol into the truck with number KTU 760 XC.
“The suspect and the exhibits will be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Eleweran, Abeokuta for further Investigation on the directive of the Commissioner of Police Ogun State CP Abdulmajid Ali,” Adejobi said.
He added in a release: “The suspect is assisting the police in its investigation to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang and reveal more information that will assist the police.
“The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Abdulmajid Ali, has once again put all officers and men of the command on their toes to make sure that pipelines and installations are adequately protected particularly during this fuel crisis as many of the hoodlums will want to seize the opportunity to perpetrate their criminal act of economic sabotage.”
