Don’t abandon our culture for foreign ones, Alabi tells youths

NIGERIA: YOUTHS in Nigeria have been advised not to abandoned indigenous culture for foreign ones.
The Aare Alasaa Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Lekan Alabi, gave the advice on Monday at a press conference held at Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre Abeokuta, to herald the 37th remembrance program of the late Sakara music icon, Yusuf Ajao Olatunji popularly called Baba L’Egba.

Alabi, who is the Chairman of Yusuf Olatunji Foundation, urged the youths to uphold the tradition and cultural practices of Nigerian societies, among which is indigenous music that is rich in values and morals.
He also described the late Olatunji as a music legend who had made a mark in the nation’s music industry with his Sakara genre of music.
“The great musician, Yusuf Ajao Olatunji popularly known as Baba L’Egba was a legend in the music industry.  37 years ago, December 15, 1978, the legend departed this world. Nevertheless, his great work lives on,”,Alabi said.
He also noted that the outstanding achievement of the great Sakara icon had prompted the Yusuf Olatunji Foundation and Fitilah Global Entertainment to decide to celebrate the 37th posthumous anniversary of Baba L’Egba.
His words: “As a result of his phenomenon, the Yusuf Olatunji Foundation and Fitilah Global Entertainment have decided to celebrate the 37th posthumous anniversary of Baba L’Egba in a grand style with the aim of immortalizing the great Sakara king and celebrating the wonderful Yoruba people in general.”
He further stressed that the three days event will begin with a Fidau prayer on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Baba L’Egba’s home in Lafenwa, Abeokuta and a visit to orphanages in Abeokuta on December 19 and a cultural show.

Alabi stated that the event will end with an album launch by the late Olatunji grandson, Abideen Yusuf, and fund raising for the proposed Yusuf Olatunji Event and Entertainment Centre on December 20, 2015.
The veteran journalist called on all Yoruba at home and abroad to come together in one voice to fight the problem of insurgency facing Nigeria, to protect and promote the beautiful culture of Yoruba people.
