Herbalist with firearms, making juju for robbers held in Ogun

NIGERIA: A HERBALIST, who was in possession of firearms and making protective charms for armed bandits, has been arrested in Ogun State.

Musiliu Otun was apprehended at his Itunranikenken area of Sagamu when detectives from the Ogun State Police Command stormed his residence.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, told journalists on Sunday in Abeokuta, the state capital, that the man was nabbed last Friday during the raid carried out by the command’s crack team of anti-robbery squad.

“The Special Anti-Robbery Squad of  Ogun State Command has arrested one herbalist for keeping arms and making charms for a group of suspected armed robbers who have been terrorizing innocent Nigerians particularly the good people of Ogun State,” Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said.

He explained that the anti-robbery squad has been working on a tip off on the activities and involvement of the herbalist in many robbery operations.

According to him, after enough information had been gathered to nail the herbalist, men of the police invaded Otun’s home which is in Sagamu Local Government area of the state.
Adejobi confirmed that the suspect, already in police custody, was nabbed with some guns and ammunition and assorted charms.
Also, in a related development, the police operatives attached to Sagamu Division of the Command on Sunday arrested one Kabiru Soyemi for robbery and cultism.
Adejobi said that the operatives, who responded to a distress call from the victims of the suspect, raced to the area and apprehended Soyemi, who was in possession of a locally made pistol, while other members of his gang fled on sighting policemen.
He said: “The two suspects arrested by SARS and Sagamu Division are helping the police in their investigation, and efforts are in top gear to arrest other fleeing members of the syndicates.”
“The Commissioner of Police Ogun State CP Abdulmajid Ali has commended the police operatives who carried out the operations that led to the arrest of the suspects for their gallantry,” Adejobi further said.
The police image maker explained that Ali had also directed that proper investigation be carried out on the cases as the command would leave no stone unturned in ensuring adequate protection of lives and property in the Gateway State.
