NIGERIA: SEVEN secondary school students – who were involved in violent attack on their teachers – have been charged to court in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
The Osun State Police Command said on Friday that the students were dragged to court for attacking their teachers at St. Marks High School, Osogbo.
The Command Public Relations Officer, Folashade Odoro, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, has, therefore, counselled parents to advice their wards not to be involved in act of vandalism within their school premises.
It would be recalled that some students suspected to be cultists attacked their teachers, using guns and other dangerous weapons to cause pandemonium in the school and its environs.
Meanwhile, the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has directed teachers in the high school to halt further academics activities.
The NUT, in a statement signed by its Secretary, Mr. Abdullahi Mohammed, said that the teachers must stay off school until further notice.
Similarly, the Ministry of Education warned that it would not condone any criminal act and other social vices among students in the state.
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Lawrence Oyeniran, declared that anyone caught engaging in any criminal acts would not go scot free.
The ministry pointed out that the security agencies were working hand in hand with the school authority in ensuring that perpetrators of the violent act at St. Marks High School are brought to book.
