US: A JUDGE in Guatemala, Hector Trujillo, has been arrested by the US federal agents.
The 62-year-old Trujilo, who was alleged to be involved in corruption and kickbacks regarding marketing and broadcast rights of tournaments and matches organised by Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), was arrested last Friday in Florida.
The security personnel picked up Trujile, a soccer official in his home country, in his cabin aboard a Disney cruise ship, GatewayMail learnt over the weekend.
The US government is currently probing and prosecuting some officials of the FIFA, including the suspended President Sepp Blatter, over series of allegations of bribery and corruption which involved over $200 million worth of deals.
GatewayMail further gathered that the judge was nabbed by US Customs and Border Protection agents following the plan to prosecute him in court over his roles regarding bribery allegations in the world soccer governing body.
No fewer than 41 offences have been slammed on the FIFA officials involved in the deal which spanned several years before the discovery.
In line with this, FIFA last Friday placed suspension on Juan Angel Napout of Paraguay and Alfredo Hawit of Honduras, both members of the executive committee.
While Napout is the president of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) Hawit is the head of the CONCACAF, the soccer organ that organises the sport in North, Central America and the Caribbean.
Napout and Hawit were suspended from soccer activities for 90 days following their arrests last Thursday in a early morning raid on the hotel where they were staying.
