Alleged drug addicted son kills father in Ogun

NIGERIA: A 69-year-old man has been allegedly killed by his suspected drug addicted son in Abeokuta, just as the family of the deceased attacked newsmen who came to cover the incident.
GatewayMail investigation revealed that the sad incident occurred Tuesday night at 25 Akintobi Badejo Street, Sabo area of the state capital when the son allegedly pushed his father following an argument and the man thereafter collapsed.

But another source in the family told GatewayMail that the father had taken the middle aged son to church for spiritual solution over the drug addiction problem, but argument ensued between the duo, and in the process the man hit his leg on a stone, which made him to collapse.
An eyewitness further said that the father was rushed to a private hospital in the town, but the doctor who attended to him said that the man had died before he could reach the hospital.
However, at about 10.45am on Wednesday when newsmen visited the home of the deceased, sympathizers and family members were seen lamenting the loss, while the alleged suspected killer was said to have been given sedative medication which kept him asleep.
It was also gathered that the middle aged man, in the course of his violence, allegedly smashed the windscreen of a blue Honda Accord with registration number AGL 763 AQ  belonging to one of his brother-in-law.
Meanwhile, some family members attacked the newsmen who arrived the home to report the incident.

The angry people declared that the journalists had no business in interfering over the issue, claiming that it was a family affair.

The attackers blocked the Nigeria Television Authority, Channel 12 Abeokuta news crew vehicle, threatened other journalists with juju and to vowed to seize their cameras should they fail to leave the vicinity.
As at the time of filing this report, arrangement had commenced to bury the deceased, who was identified as Baba Basirat.

The family, GatewayMail further gathered, had equally ruled out reporting the case to the police, and prevent it from getting to public knowledge, hence their resolve to prevent journalists from covering the sad incident.
