Ogun LG Information Officers elect Abati, others as maiden executives

NIGERIA: THE maiden executive officers of the Local Government Information Officers Chapel (LOGIC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council have been elected, particularly after a hotly contested election for the chairmanship seat.
After the first ballot, the contestants for the exalted position – Mr. Mobolaji Oluwaseun Abati and Mr. Wole Oladipo – scored 43 votes apiece.
After the rerun, Abati, an Information Officer at the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, got 53 votes to defeat Oladipo who got 39 to become the first chairman.
Earlier, the members of the chapel had elected other officers. They are Mrs. Omolola Adeyinka (Vice Chaiman), Mr. Ayoola Obadimu (Secretary), Mr. Daud Olatunji (Treasurer), Mr. Seye Akinyemi (Financial Secretary) and Mrs. Adenike Olowe (Assistant Secretary) Mr. A. Awode (Auditor).
The swearing in ceremony of the elected officers has been performed by the state NUJ Chairman, Comrade Wole Shokunbi, at the auditorium of the Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre, Abeokuta.
Abati, an Itoko indigene from Abeokuta, has promised to provide purposeful leadership for the new chapel with pragmatic approach to handling union affairs.
“I am happy that my colleagues elected me to lead our chapel, which I see as a sign of absolute belief in me,” the new LOGIC chairman, who is also the Public Relations Officer of the local government service commission, said.
“And I want to assure all our distinguished and respected members that I, together with my other executive members, would not disappoint them. With God on our side, we shall provide purposeful leadership that all of them would be proud of,” Abati, who obtained a National Diploma in Mass Communication from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, said.
Abati, also a B.Sc. and M.Sc. holder in Mass Communication from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye and National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) respectively, assured that the new officers would work towards the enhancement and the growth of the members, while also promising professional cum skill development.
“All these I want to promise that we shall strive harder to do in the overall interest of our members,” the chairman, who is currently studying Law at the NOUN, said.
