HID buried beside Awo in family mausoleum

NIGERIA: PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday led eminent Nigerians to pay their last respect to the matriarch of Awolowo dynasty, Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, who was buried beside her husband, the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
The late wife of the first Premier of the old Western Region was buried in the family mausoleum on the day her family members had planned a centennial birthday for her and barely 28 years after the demise of her late husband.
Earlier, a church service had been held at the family church, Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Ikenne with no fewer
than 35 Bishops, several other clergymen, and other guests, among whom were foreigners, in attendance.
Others notable personalities who graced the burial ceremony included Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-Chief of General Staff, Gen. Oladipo Diya, former Lagos State Governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, ex-Head of State, Gen.Yakubu Gowon, ex-Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former Head of Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, and Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
Also present were Dr. Femi Okurounmu, ex-Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Ondo State Governor, Dr. Segun Mimiko, Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Lawson, and former Ogun State PDP Governorship candidate, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka.
Though Buhari could not join the dignitaries for the church service, but he arrived the Awolowo home barely after interment, and joined other personalities inside the Efunyela Hall in the family compound.
Also in Ikenne to bid HID, also called Yeye Oodua, farewell were governors Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), the richest man in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Pastor Tunde Bakare, ex-Ogun State Governor, Chief Segun Osoba, former Ekiti State Governor, Chief Niyi Adebayo, Publisher of Ovation magazine, Dele Momodu, and Chief Olu Falae.
Before the commencement of the burial programme, the children of the deceased had planted a tree in the Awolowo compound to honour her, particularly to put into historical record the date she was interred.
