ATLANTA: A NIGERIAN woman who impersonated as a nurse in Atlanta, United States of America has been arrested by the police.
Thirty-two-year-old Taiwo Sobamowo was apprehended last Sunday in Raleigh, North Carolina, where ran to after her fraud was discovered.
She is still being detained in the North Carolina jail, it was gathered.
Sobamowo is facing charges of identity fraud and forgery for using the identity of another person to work as a nurse, and she could face more going by the new investigation embarked upon by the police.
She was one of the nurses who treated Bobbi Kristina Brown, the 22-year-old only daughter of the duo singers – Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston who died February 11, 2012.
Bobbi, who was found in her bathtub unresponsive on January 31, 2015 and after undergoing series of treatments, eventually died last July 26.
Police have now widened their investigation to find out if Sobamowo treated other patients who have been invited to come forward and volunteer information in this regard to help authorities.
It was learnt that the Nigerian woman used similary name of another licensed nurse to obtain the nursing job at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Georgia, where she had access to treat Bobbi.
The hiring company, Homestead Hospice, on discovering the fraud, fired Sobamowo who fled into hiding where she was eventually apprehended.
Its Chief Executive Officer, Mallie Sharafat, said that the firm conducted background check on Sobamowo and scrutinized references on her from other health care agencies.
Said Sharaf: “We had no reason to believe that she was anything other than a good nurse with proper credentials.”
The Georgia Board of Nursing, on noticing the discrepancies, issued an alert to the public, particularly when it could not find any traces that Sobamowo attended medical college.
