HID was a role model to women, say S’West Iyalodes

NIGERIA: WOMEN in the South West have described the late Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo as role model in the country and beyond.

The Council of South West Women Leaders, who visited the Ikenne, Ogun State home of the deceased, lamented the passage of the wife of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

The council, which comprises of Iyalodes and other women in the South West, said that the news of the passage was received with heavy heart.

The council, led by the Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Lawson, who is the Iyalode of Yorubaland, and included 38 other members, stated that while the late HID was alive “we all cherished, respected and admired her unflinching commitment to the unity, growth and development of Nigeria.”

“This attributes Mama HID displayed with courage during the trials and challenges of her late darling husband, the late sage Pa Obafemi Awolowo,” the council said.
The council, however, presented a letter entitled “Celebration of Life” jointly signed by Lawson, Chief (Mrs.) Grace Adegbite (Maye Iyalode of Ibadanland) and Stella Soyanwo (Iyalode of Otan-Aiyegbaju) to the Awolowo family.

It noted that the humility and love displayed by the late woman to everyone – especially the women – couldn’t be forgotten.
“Mama HID as she was fondly called was a role model to all women in the Odua region, and Nigeria in particular as well as the world at large, Yeye Odua came, she saw, she conquered,” the council.

It said: “We thank God for this wonderful rare gift of creature to mankind as she goes home to her creator on the date she would have turned 100 years on earth.”
“We wish our dear mother well on her journey to eternity until the resurrection day when we shall all meet to part no more,” the council said.
