NIGERIA: THE Awolowo family has given a great testimony on the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

To the family, the measures taken so far by Buhari, since assumption of office, were clear indications that he has been following the footsteps of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

The daughter of the the first Premier of the old Western Region, Mrs. Omotola Oyediran, who spoke on behalf of the family, explained that with the signs of resemblance in governance they would continue to solicit support for the President to ensure the success of his administration and Nigeria.

Oyediran gave the testimony when the wife of the President, Aishat Buhari, and the Vice-President, Dolapo Osinbajo, paid a condolence visit to the family in Ikenne, Ogun State on the death of Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, often called HID.
She told the visitors that their deceased parents left behind big shoes for the family to step into, but gave assurance that the family would not disappoint the nation.

Oyediran enjoined Nigerians not to abandon them after the death of the ex-leader of the opposition in the First Republic and his wife, whose burial has been fixed for November 25, her birthday when she would have clock 100.
“The present federal government of President Buhari is taking Awolowo’s footsteps and we promise to give support to his administration,” Oyediran said, adding: “We cannot talk of Mama without talking about Papa.”

She stressed: “Our parents had left big shoes for us, we shall not disappoint the nation, and I called on Nigerians not leave us alone.”
The eldest daughter of the Awolowos urged women to always be loyal and committed to the progress of their husbands and stand by them, as exhibited by their late mum and dad.

She recalled that the late matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty was a reliable wife to her husband in spite of the turbulent period.
Oyediran stated that their mother was a virtuous woman, the trait which informed their late father to have described her as “a jewel of inestimable value.”

Earlier in her remark, Aishat Buhari had said that the whole country was aware of the positive roles HID played towards the growth of the nation.

She stressed that the deceased wife of Awolowo would continue to be remembered, adding that she was a dutiful wife and mother, who remains a reference point to genuine womanhood and Nigeria as a country.
