Senate confirms Ngige, Fashola, Fayemi, others as ministers

NIGERIA: THE Senate has confirmed, as ministers, no fewer than 18 of the nominees forwarded to it by President Muhammadu Buhari.
After the Upper Chamber screened the ministerial-nominees on Tuesday and Wednesday, it cleared and approved Senator Chris Ngige (Anambra), former Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), his Lagos State counterpart, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (Lagos), Chief Audu Ogbe (Benue), and 14 others.
They include Senator Udo Udoma (Akwa Ibom), Dr. Ogbonaya Onu (Ebonyi), Dr. Osagie Ehanire (Edo), retired Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau (Kano), and Usman Jubril (Nasarawa).
The Senate also approved the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu (Delta), Alhaji Lai Mohammed (Kwara), Amina Ibrahim Mohammed (Gombe), Suleiman Mohamed (Jigawa), Abubakar Malami (Kebbi), Aisha Alhassan (Taraba), Solomon Dalong (Plateau), Kemi Adeosun (Ogun) and Senator Hadi Sirika (Katsina).
While other nominees would appear before the Senators who adjourned sitting till Thursday, the screening of former Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and Barrister Adebayo Shittu (Oyo) was deferred.
Amaechi could not be screened as the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions was yet to present its report on the petition against the ex-governor, while Shittu was put on hold due to time factor. Shittu is likely to appear tomorrow for screening.
Saraki, before adjourning plenary, praised his colleagues on the questions and their general contributions and congratulated those screened and confirmed.
“It is not going to be business as usual because we are going to hold them to their words and to their promises,” Saraki said.
Among those to be screened in the second batch sent to the Senate are Dan Ali, Ahmed Isa Ibeto, Suleiman Adam, Geoffrey Onyema, Zainab Ahmed, Barrister James Ocholi, Cladius Omoleye Daramola, and Prof Anthony Onwuka.
Others are Hajia Khadija Bukar Ibrahim, Okechukwu Enelamah, Muhammadu Bello, Mustapha Baba Shehuri, Aisha Abubakar, Heineken Lokpobiri, Adamu Adamu, Isaac Adewole, Abubakar Bawa Bwari, and Pastor Usani Uguru.
