Honours for Lafarge, Abolurin at Ogun Correspondents’ Chapel Press Week

NIGERIA: THE immediate past and pioneer Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ade Abolurin, and cement producing giant, Lafarge Africa Plc, would be honoured by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council.
The award ceremony, which is part of the activities to mark the chapel’s Press Week which has the theme “Media and Economic Renaissance” is to hold at Neugate Hotels and Suites, Olorombo off Abiola Way, Abeokuta on Friday, October 2.
Lafarge and Abolurin are being honoured for Corporate Social Responsibility and Meritorious Service to the nation
respectively.
The award/gala night, according to the programme of event, is to round off the week, after a Jumat service at the Secretariat Mosque II, GRA Housing Estate, Ibara, Abeokuta the same day.
The release by the chapel indicated that the week begins on Sunday (tomorrow) with a church service at the Treasure of House of God, Quarry House, Abeokuta, while a lecture entitled “Media as Veritable Tools to Nigerian Economy Diversification” will be delivered by Dr. Reuben Abati, the former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
Ogun State Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Yetunde Onanuga, will officially declare the week open at Iwe-Irohin Press House, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta at the segment where former state’s Information Commissioner and Chairman, Rockcity FM, Mr Niran Malaolu, would chair the occasion.
Similarly, a lecture scheduled for Tuesday entitled “Falling Oil Prices: Nigeria in Search of Economic Survival” would be delivered by the Group Managing Director, Skye Bank Plc, Mr Timothy Oguntayo, while the following day related lecture entitled “Housing Deficit in Developing Economies: Challenges, Prospects,” would hold with Barrister Babajide Odusolu, Managing Director, Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation (OPIC) as the speaker.
Venue is Iwe-Irohin Press House, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.
The chapel, led by Kunle Olayeni of New Telegraph newspaper, will also hold cultural night with a lecture on Wednesday by the National Co-ordinator, Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams. The topic is “African Languages on the Brink of Extinction (Yoruba as a Case Study).” The royal father of the day is Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, Towulade of Akinale.
Besides Olayeni, other officers of the chapel are Femi Oyeweso (Vice Chairman), Wale Adewunmi (Secretary), Razaq Ayinla (Assistant Secretary) and James Ogunnaike (Treasurer).
Gatewaymail further learnt that outreach and empowerment of old and retired journalists that are formerly members of the Chapel has been scheduled as part of the programme.
