NIGERIA: FORMER Secretary to Government of the Federation and one-time presidential candidate of the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD), Chief Olu Falae, has been kidnapped.

Falae, a member of the last Constitutional Conference in Abuja, was alleged to have been kidnapped in his farm, sources told Gatewaymail.

It was also gathered that the kidnappers are now demanding N100 million ransom before the politician could regain his freedom.

The Police Commissioner, it was learnt, has directed his deputy, Isola Abdullahi and his team, to begin combing all the nooks and crannies of the state and beyond to rescue the chieftain of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere and apprehend the kidnappers.

The development has forced the state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, to summon an emergency meeting of the state Security Council to deliberate on the quickest way out.

The meeting, according to the Information Commissioner, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, was called to strategise on how to rescue the elder statesman as soon as possible.

Akinmade on Monday lamented the kidnap, saying that the development was an obvious state of insecurity in the country.

Said Akinmade: “This is disturbing and sad, especially when it involves an elder statesman like Chief Olu Falae, but I’m sure the man will be rescued very soon and the perpetrators would be brought to book.”
