NIGERIA: RESIDENTS of Ogijo community in Ogun State have rejected move to bury a notorious cult leader in the area, thus forcing family members to shift their burial plan.
Tajudeen Raji, aka Orji Oba Pharaoh and regarded as a notorious cult leader, was alleged to be coordinating cult activities in the South-West of Nigeria.
Raji, who was a landlord in Ogijo, was last Friday murdered by his rival cult members in Fadeyi area of Lagos while returning from night club.
On learining that his corpse would be buried in the town last Saturday, the community rejected the burial plan by the family and quickly raised a team comprising of vigilante group to thwart the arrangement.
They insisted that Raji would not be allowed to be buried in the town due to his nefarious activities, particularly as he allegedly committed much havoc in the town resulting in maiming and kiling of many innocent people.
The residents of the community also said that when alive, Raji, whose herbalist father died early this year, turned himself into tin god with the assistance of some faceless politicians who used him to perpetrate political crimes and other unpleasant activities in the town and beyond.
Sensing the danger in insisting on burying Raji in the town, the deceased family, according to sources, changed their plan.
It was learnt that the deceased’s corpse was thereafter moved to his father’s house located in Ijede in Ikorodu, Lagos State where he was eventually buried.
However, when our correspondent visited Ogijo there was a detachment of policemen assigned to the community, apparently to avoid any bloodbath, while a large number of residents were seen celebrating the death of the cultist.
Some of the residents, who spoke with Gatewaymail correspondent, said that the death of Raji was a relief due to his notoriety, adding that the community’s rejection of his corpse was the best decision taken by the community.
Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the death of the cultist, said he had been on police wanted list.
