NIGERIA: SOKOTO State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, has hinted on his administration’s plan to raise the monthly allowances of corps members serving in the state.
The Governor, who made the pledge when he spoke with the corps members after their sanitation exercise in Sokoto, the state capital, said he would top up the current N4,000 with additional amount which he did not disclose.
“We have not arrived at a tentative figure as at now but the gesture is aimed at further motivating the corps members to do much more in their diligent service to the nation,” Tambuwal, who is the immediate past Speaker, House of Representatives, said.
“We want to also better complement the monthly allowances being paid to them by the Federal Government,” he further said.
The governor assured the corps members that he would provide them more double-bunk beds and mattresses at the permanent NYSC Orientation Camp at Wamakko, the headquarters of the Wamakko Local Government.
He also told the serving youths that he would provide more utility vehicles to the scheme, and rehabilitate its state secretariat at Kalambaina, near Sokoto.
While responding to some requests put forward to him by the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Thomas Yamma, the Governor also stressed the determination of his government to rid the state of filth.
Earlier, Yamma had pledged that the NYSC scheme would fully complement the efforts of the Tambuwal administration in ensuring that the entire state remains clean.
The coordinator maintained that the pledge became pertinent in order to enhance environmental and personal hygiene in the state and prevent diseases from ravaging the communities.
