JORDAN: EX-CONTENDER to former FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, has indicated his interest to run again for number one world soccer administrator seat.
Jordanian Prince Ali bin al-Hussein said that he was fully set to contest as successor to Blatter, who left office amidst fraud and corruption at the FIFA headquarters early this year.
The 79-year-old Blatter forced next year election following his resignation barely days after he won reelection, which was trailed later by allegations of fraud and corruption among top FIFA executives.
The 37-year-old Jordanian contested against Blatter in the May election where he garnered 73 votes to come second, but withdrew for the former FIFA boss.
With this decision, al-Hussein would vie with others who are interested in succeeding Blatter in February 26 next year election.
While indicating his desire to vie for the FIFA presidency via twitter, al-Hussein said: “I stand with the people who love football as I do. People who know in their hearts the power of the sport to change life for the better.”
He said further on his ambition: “This election should be about football, not personal ambition. We have come too far to walk away now.”
“We must overcome deep-seated corruption but I was not brought up to walk away from a tough fight. This is about right and wrong,” the Jordanian added.
He referred to the last May poll, saying “I was the only person who dared to challenge Blatter, I ran because I believe that FIFA needs change. I had the courage when others feared. They didn’t have the guts to run, but I did.”
Es una gran pena. Lo escuchaba todas las tardes al volver del trabajo. “Una lastima”
