Latin Foundation to hold symposium to mark peace day

NIGERIA: AS part of its contributions to the society, a Non-Governmental Organisation, Latin Foundation, is to hold a one-day symposium to mark this year’s World Peace Day.

The event, which will also feature awareness walk and award segment, has been scheduled for September 21.

The foundation owned by ace comedian, Mr. Bolaji Amusan, has as its theme “No alternative to peace.”

Amusan, who addressed reporters in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, said that the Chairman, West Africa Network for Peace Building, Prof Isaac Albert, would speak at the event to hold at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.
The comedian said that the former Deputy Director, European Peace University of Austria, Prof Rasheed Akinyemi, would chair the occasion, while the immediate past Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ade Abolurin, would be part of the discussants.

According to him, three notable Nigerians – the Olugbo Ugboland, Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Mrs Florence Ajimobi, wife of the Oyo State governor – would receive World Peace Ambassadors Award at the 5th edition of the yearly event.

Amusan, who explained that the foundation has continued to hold the annual symposium, coupled with attending to fight drug abuse, and HIV/AIDS, among others, said that part of the foundation genuine efforts is the ongoing construction of Skill and Rehabilitation Center, in Abeokuta.
He said: “Massive awareness and enlightenment programme have so far been done at different locations and over 750 people have so far benefited from our free kidney and medical test with their results given to them same day, while several widows had been empowered.”
“Also, the construction of our Skill Acquisition and Rehabilitation Centre has commenced which is one of the primary goals of the foundation to take the youth off the street,” the popular comedian added.
