Kogi 2015: Choice of Audu is victory for our party — PDP chieftain

NIGERIA:  EX-GOVERNOR of Kogi State, Abubakar Audu, is set to return to the Government House for the third time, following his emergence as the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of the November 21 governorship election.

But to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, the choice of Audu by APC is a blessing to it.

With Audu as APC candidate, the election has been won by PDP because it would defeat the ex-governor, the state’s Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Bode Ogunmola, boasted.

Audu, who is being tried by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on allegation of misappropriation of state fund when in office, won the primary with 1,109 votes.

The aspirants, among the 28 trounced by Audu at the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai-led electoral supervisory body, included the only female, Hadiza Ibrahim who got four votes and Yahaya Bello with 703 votes.

Also defeated in the race to Lord Lugard House are ex-Senator Nurudeen Abatemi, who came third with 400 votes while Sanusi Abubakar garnered 309 votes.

The victorious Audu praised the electoral body and urged other aspirants to work with him in ensuring victory for the party.

“Let us work together in harmony, we have serious task ahead. To unseat an incumbent is not easy but we can do it,” Audu pleaded while saying that there was no victor, no vanquished in the primary.

But Ogunmola said that with Audu as the candidate of APC, the election has already been won and lost.

To the publicity secretary, APC has committed the biggest blunder with the choice of Audu as its flag-bearer.

Ogunmola justified the confidence, saying that PDP had defeated Audu no fewer than four times in previous elections.
