Messi, a talented player, defeated Barcelona colleague, Luis Suarez, and fellow Real Madrid star, Christiano Ronaldo, to emerge winner for the 2014 to 2015 period.
He was presented the UEFA award after the Champions League group stage draw held earlier on Thursday.
The new best player, known for his astonishing skillful play and high scoring ability, netted 58 goals in 57 games for his Spanish club last football season.
He was part of the forward players alongside Suarez and Neymar, who recorded the Spannish record of 122 goals for Barcelona.
To attain this height, Messi started with two goals during UEFA Super Cup final against Sevilla and another strike in the Spanish Supercopa defeat to Athletic Bilbao.
But, the star footballer came runner-up to Ronaldo in two year sequence during the 2014 Ballon d’Or early in January.
