Emmanuel Amuneke, who expressed satisfaction on the victory of his team over the Villa View Hotels FC at the match played at Karkanda Stadium, Kaduna, said the players needed more friendly matches to measure their state and level of preparedness for the challenges ahead.
The Golden Eaglets last Wednesday defeated Villa View five goals to two in a friendly match to put the team in shape for the World Cup.
Amuneke, whose team would tackle hosts, Chile, Croatia and the United States in Group A at the junior World Cup, said he would pick 21 out of the 35 players that would head for the world soccer contest.
The Golden Eaglets are the defending champions and the most winner of the junior compeititon with four titles, and they would knock it out with US team before meeting Chile and Croatia in Group A.
Captain of the junior team, Kelechi Nwakali scored in the five to two goals match, while striker Victor Osihen also did same with striker Orji Okonkwo, while Victor Udoh and Efenile James saw the back of the net too for Villa View.
An impressed Coach Emeka Amadi, the Golden Eaglets’ goalkeeper trainer, said: “I’m really happy with the performance of our boys and for giving me a good birthday present.”
Amadi, an ex-youth international player who was on the Flying Eagles team that won silver medal at the 1989 FIFA U-20 World Youth Championship in Saudi Arabia, expressed satisfaction on the players’ performance.
“We (technical crew) are very impressed because the players were able to express and translate some of the things they have learnt in practice and this was a good match,” Amadi, who clocked 43, said.
