The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, is currently the President of the NGE. He was reelected for second term few months before President Muhammadu Buhari picked him as this media aide.
The editors would gather for the event tagged “ANEC 2015”, a statement by the Publicity Sub-committee Chairman, Mustapha Isa, said.
The conference, which is to hold a day after the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) ended its two-year national leadership retreat in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, has the theme “NIGERIA: The Change we Need and The Role of The Editor.”
The retreat charted a road map to address the challenges facing the congress, a statement signed by the NLC President, Mr Ayuba Wabba, said.
According to Isa, the editors conference slated to take place at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Yenagoa, would be chaired by a veteran broadcaster and Chief Executive Officer of Channels Television, Mr John Momoh, while Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa would be the chief host.
The Guest Speaker, he added, would be Prof Etannibi Alemika of the Department of Sociology, University of Jos at the event where no fewer than 300 editors of various media organisations across the country are expected to attend.
The NLC retreat with the theme “Returning to our Founding Principles: The NLC and the Challenges facing it,” reviewed the state of the labour movement and positioned it to meet present and future challenges, Wabba further explained.
He added that the National Leadership Retreat also reviewed the internal democratic practices and management within trade unions and how to strengthen them.
Wabba explained that the retreat identified factors engendering inter and intra union disputes and how to redress them and also reviewed the challenges of organising and recruiting new members.
Wabba said that the retreat also reviewed the programme “Returning to our Founding Principles”, the motions and resolutions of the 11th delegates conference and outlined a road map for their implementation.
The NLC boos maintained that the retreat undertook an appraisal of the 2014 New Pension Reform Act and the contributory pension scheme and identified ways of strengthening their implementation.
