NIGERIA: ANGRY thugs have disrupted the rally organised by the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Jigawa North-West Senatorial District to drum support for the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The suspected political thugs, GatewayMail learnt, invaded Gumel Township Stadium where they chased away APC chieftain and supporters who were there to also support the second term of Governor Abubakar Badaru.
The senatorial rally was the third to be organised in the state to gather support for Badaru and Buhari, who recently declared his intention to run for second term next year.
The state APC Chairman, Ado Kiri, could not address the crowd, following the rowdiness created by the thugs who were singing derogatory songs, mainly directed at the Senator representing Jigawa North-West Senatorial District, Senator Abdullahi Gumel.
GatewayMail further gathered that Gumel, who had earlier sneaked into the rally with the aid of ex-Senator Danladi Sankara for fear of a likely attack by the thugs, was prevented from mounting the podium to address the gathering.
It was gathered that the rally, expected to host all federal and state lawmakers, was attended by two federal lawmakers.
Similarly, most dignitaries, who attended the rally, sneaked out of the venue after sensing that the event could turn violent.
Among those at the rally were ex-Deputy Governor in the State, Ahmad Mahmud, APC leader, Isa Gerawa and notable party chieftains.
