NIGERIA: FROM the Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Akeem Adeosun, has come an assurance that the running of commercial buses and taxis in designated routes within the state capital and some selected cities in the state would soon commence.

Adeosun (a.k.a. Jango) gave the hope in a chat with journalists in his Asero, Abeokuta office while hinting on the possibility of running the said commercial buses in the state.

He stressed that efforts would be made to strengthen the existing intra and inter-state buses transportation, particularly to the two neighbouring states.

Adeosun added that the government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun had provided enough logistics to make it a reality through its commitment and dedication to the transport sector in the state.

The union chairman further said that residents of the state would soon commend the government for giant strides as everything is being done to achieve the new initiative.

According to him, Amosun administration had done a lot for the transport sector through the provisions of over 120 buses and taxis to the sector in order to ease the transportation challenges confronting the sector.

He noted that when the government injected another buses into the transport sector, it would provide more relief to the residents of the state.

“As you can see that some commercial buses and taxis introduced in the sector the last time not enough for the residents because of the influx of investors and people entering the state on daily basis that is the more reason government deemed it fit to inject another series of buses and taxis into the system,” Adeosun explained.

The NURTW boss, who hailed government promises on the provision of more buses and taxis to boost the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), assured that his leadership would not derail the good initiative of the government.

He, however, emphasized the need for the residents to cooperate with the transport union in running their day-to-day activities.

Adeosun also stated that the NURTW had been in peaceful co-existence since the inception of Amosun administration without any crisis across the three senatorial district of the state.

According to him, members of the union have been cooperating among themselves and working hard to maintain their glory and dignity without any trace of violence and thuggery.

Adeosun counselled passengers to be wary of kidnappers while boarding buses or taxis due to the presence of some unscrupulous elements parading themselves as motorists in order to kidnap people for ritual purposes.

He stated that passengers must go to motor parks to board and fill the motor manifest for any unforeseen circumstances.

According to him, this is necessary in case of loss of luggage as the manifest would help to find it for the passengers through tracking down the buses or taxis the passengers boarded.

“It is very imperative to board motors from garages or designated motor parks across the state, so as to prevent our people from being kidnapped for ritual purposes or in case of motor accident it will be easier for us to track down their family members through the manifesto they have been filled,” Adeosun said.
