NIGERIA: OGUN State Commissioner for Youths and Sport, Hon. Moroof Afolabi Afuape, has a piece of advice for the Federal Government on the nation’s youths.
Afuape charged the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to strive harder to meet the needs of the youths by tailoring available resources towards their development.
The Commissioner made this know while spoking on “Insecurity among the Youths in Nigeria” at the annual lecture of the Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies Students’ Association of the University of Ibadan in Oyo State.
Afuape, who was the guest speaker at the occasion held at the department auditorium, said that government at all levels need to shun act of misplaced of priorities in the country and give serious attention to the required sector, especially the youths as the most populous within the country’s age cadres.
The Commissioner lamented that the youths accounted for about 65 percent of the country’s population and remain the most productive, proactive, and vulnerable, and yet are the most neglected sector in terms of everything good.
Afuape, according to a news release signed by the Press Officers in the Ministry of Youths and Sport, Dolapo Jinad, and Akinbobola Adeniyi, stated that should things continue in such way the country will be sitting on a keg of gun powder.
According to him, some of the societal ills that the country is witnessing today was due to neglect of the youths and if something urgent is not done to develop the youths at all levels a lot of unfortunate events will continually happen and the country will continue to be underdeveloped.
“Government at all levels needs to shunned all acts of misplacement of priorities of youths and give them serious attention, if not the country will not develop and everything will be moribund,” he said.
“However, in a country where things like this is happening they should be expecting a time bomb and I want to seriously appeal to the Federal Government to focus on infrastructural facilities development that would help youths to stand on their own,” the Commissioner added.
Also at the event, the university’s Student Adviser, Dr. Isola Isola, commended the efforts being made by Afuape, through the content of his paper.
Isola stressed that the institution’s management would take it up from where he stopped about the teaching of moral and discipline.
