Ogun Police Kill Suspected Highway Robber

NIGERIA: MEN of the Nigeria Police Force have killed a member of a highway armed robbery gang in Ogun State.
The suspect was killed during robbery operations at Ososa junction along Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told journalists that the suspected was shot dead following a distress call received by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).
“An armed robbery suspect has been shot dead by men of Ogun State Police Command in the early morning of Sunday 7th January 2017 at Ososa junction of Shagamu/Ore Expressway,” Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said.
According to him, after receiving the call, the officer in charge of FSARS, Uba Adams, led his men to the scene where the robbers engaged the policemen in gun duel which lasted for about 45 minutes.
“This followed a distress call received by operatives from FSARS that robbers have blocked the express road at about 2:30am and dispossessing people of their properties,” Oyeyemi said.
He added: “Upon the distress call, the officer in charge of FSARS DSP Uba Adam led his men to the scene where the robbers engaged them in gun duel which lasted for about 45 minutes.”
He further said that at the end of the encounter, one robber was shot dead while others escaped with gunshot injuries.
The police image maker said that two locally made single barrel guns and 78 live cartridges were recovered from the robbers.
Oyeyemi stated that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed iliyasu, who praised his men for the prompt response to the distress call, appealed to the public, especially hospitals, to quickly inform the police if they see anyone with gunshot wound in their areas.
