Buhari Appoints New DG For NIA To Replace Sacked Oke

NIGERIA: FOLLOWING the million dollars financial controversy that trailed the former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) which led to his suspension, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of a substantive replacement.

Buhari said in a statement issued by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Mr. Femi Adesina, and made available to GatewayMail that Ahmed Rufai Abubakar will henceforth replace Ayo Oke as the Director General.

According to Adesina, the President on Wednesday approved Abubakar’s appointment with immediate effect.

Abubakar is a retired career Foreign Service officer, who until his appointment, served as Senior Special Assistant to the President (SSAP) on Foreign Affairs/International Relations.

GatewayMail learnt that he had extensive experience working with the United Nations in peace support operations, mediation process, preventive diplomacy and good offices, and the promotion of good governance and respect for the rule of law and human rights.

It was further gathered that Abubakar also briefly served as Senior Adviser at the Multinational Joint Task Force, with headquarters in Ndjamena, Chad, before his appointment as SSAP.

Abubakar, who is fluent in English and Arabic, holds a B.A degree in French Language and Literature, and an M.A degree in Francophone Maghrebian Literature, both from Bayero University, Kano.
