The Presidency has last Friday appointed no fewer than 209 chairmen and 1,258 members as chairmen and members to the agencies under some ministries.

The Penpushing members appointed are Chief Bode Mustapha, who is to head the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) as Chairman, and Deaconess Doyin Ogunbiyi, who will serve as board member of Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria, Ibadan.

While Mustapha was a one-time member of the House of Representatives who represented Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi/Owode Federal Constituency in the National Assembly between 1999 and 2003, Ogunbiyi was a three times commissioner in Ogun State.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, said in the news release that the President approved the constitution of the Boards because it was “very necessary, so as to provide a proper Governance and oversight structure for Government Agencies and Parastatals.”

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, said on Friday in a news release personally signed by him that the appointments were approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The constitution of the boards with the appointments is a demonstration of this Government’s efforts aimed at building strong institutions of Governance, and by extension, improving the quality of Policy formulation and supervision,” Mustapha further explained of the vacancies under some ministries.

While the SGF also stated that the new appointments were part of the hitherto pending ones, he disclosed that some other appointments were being processed and would be released in due course.

“The appointments take immediate effect and Honourable Ministers are advised to inaugurate the boards after letters of appointment have been issued,” he stressed.
