Police nab four bandits on expressway in Ogun

NIGERIA: POLICEMEN in Ogun State have nabbed four members of a robbery syndicate at Odogbolu junction along Sagamu/Ijebu-Ode Expressway.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, explained that the suspects – Israel Adams, Opeyemi Okegbenro, Ali Chibike, and Patrick Nwandagba – were arrested by 11.30 pm on Friday after men of the command received a distressed call that the bandits had blocked the highway and began dispossessing passengers of their belongings.
“The robbers have succeeded in snatching a Lexus RX 330 jeep with Reg. No KSF 509 CV from one their victims,” Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said in a news release made available to GatewayMail in Abeokuta.
“Upon the distress call, the Commissioner of Police CP Ahmed Iliyasu PSC+ ordered the Officer in-Charge of FSARS DSP Uba Adams to go after the hoodlums and bring them to justice,” Oyeyemi said.
“In compliance with the CP’s order, the FSARS operatives moved swiftly to the scene, but on sighting the policemen, the robbers opened fire on them while the operatives also engaged them in a gun duel,” he added.
According to him, while the suspected bandits were apprehended others escaped through the nearby bush.
He explained that the gang had earlier on the same day attacked and shot one policeman, Oluwatobi Iwata attached to PMF17 in Ondo State and one Samuel Olatunji, who later died on his way to the hospital.
Oyeyemi stated that dangerous items recovered from them include one pump action gun, two locally made double barreled pistol, four live cartridges, the snatched Lexus RX330 Jeep with registration number KSF 509 CV.
“Efforts are on to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang,” he stressed.
